7-Day Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek

Comparison of Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek and Standard Everest Base Camp Trekking

The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek and the Standard Everest Base Camp Trekking are almost similar with some differences. The differences are in the accommodation, services and experience.

In Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek, you will be staying in a 5-star hotel in Kathmandu for two nights, including breakfast. The hotel’s options are the Marriott Hotel or Dusit Princess.

During the Luxury EBC trek, we provide luxury lodge accommodations with heated rooms, attached bathrooms and gourmet meals. Helicopter transfers and private guides ensure a luxurious trip to base camp.

Contrariwise, the Standard Everest Base Camp trek provides comfort but not luxuries. We have some basic hotel facilities at Kathmandu and on trekking trail teahouses having shared bathroom facilities and simple dining. Though we have limited luxuries, we have skilled guides and porters for your convenience and protection.

Essential Information

Best Time, Season, Weather Considerations

The Everest region has two major trekking seasons. The spring (March to May) season is the most beautiful time to trek in this region, with blooming rhododendrons and other flora putting on sprightly appearances along the trails. Daytime temperatures are also quite moderate and comfortable for trekking, though, of course, at higher altitudes and especially during nights, it can get quite cold so layering would be essential.

Autumn is the most preferred season for trekkers. Mostly blue skies perfectly complement the post-monsoon clarity, amazing visibility of the mighty Himalayan peaks that include Mount Everest, and the stable weather through the period, making it ideal for both trekking and helicopter flights, which form an integral part of luxury trek also including aerial and ground experiences.

The above-mentioned are the best seasons to travel, barring any fluctuations in weather conditions, as mountains are generally considered to be extremely unpredictable when it comes to weather. There could be rare instances of rain or snowfall as well so it might not be such a bad idea to go prepared for any unexpected changes.

For those looking to venture outside these peak seasons, winter (December to February) boasts peaceful scenery with snow-covered trails and far fewer trekkers. But, it is colder, and there is a high risk of snowed-in passes at higher altitudes. Monsoon season (June to August) is very wet, with the trails being slippery and the mountains often being cloud-covered, obstructing views.

Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek Guides and Porters

Professional guides in this trek are fluent in English, and thus, trekkers from any part of the world can talk constantly. They have good knowledge of the geography, culture, history and biodiversity of the region. They provide valuable information about the sites, local people, traditions and conservation system en route.

Guides do not only provide information but also help you to handle different situations during your trek. They can check altitude sickness, give first aid treatment as well and decide whether to continue walking or descend to a safer destination when necessary. Guides mention the direction clearly when they cross difficult trails, scree etc., keep track, and then execute it at a much easier pace considering members’ physical condition and acclimatization.

Porters are very important to the trek as they carry most of the trekkers’ gear, usually up to 25kg altogether. This enables trekkers to hike with minimal loads – just their daypack, containing items such as water, snacks and maybe a jacket.

Using porters not only helps reduce trekkers’ physical strain but also employs the local communities. We ensure that our porters are provided with proper equipment and attire for the mountainous conditions and that their loads do not exceed regulated weights in order not to strain them.

7-Day Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek Meals

A 7-day Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek will also satisfy your tummy. Food provided to you during the trek is tasty, hygienic and healthy.

Breakfast:

To start your trekking day, you are served with a hot breakfast every morning. Breakfast is pretty nice in the tea houses. Breakfasts include oatmeal with milk and seasonal fruits, butter toast/jam, Tibetan bread, and eggs (omelets or scrambled). Chapati (flatbread) or paratha (layered flatbread) are available too in most of the guesthouses along the trail. You can choose from a variety of hot drinks like milk tea, lemon tea, ginger tea, masala tea, green tea or coffee.

Lunch:

Lunch is taken at teahouses along the trekking route. The trailside cafes dish up a variety of meals that help to load up on carbs and protein. Traditional Nepalese meals like dal Bhat (lentil soup with rice ) are served almost everywhere, and this will fuel you for the day. Not forgetting momos (steamed dumplings ), noodle soups, fried rice, pasta etc, all taste delicious at high altitudes after a long morning trek. And if you prefer something light, sandwiches, salads or fresh fruits are usually available too.

Dinner:

You will be dining in the same teahouse that you will be spending your night at as well. In general, too dal bhat is on most menus for dinner. But along with dal bhat, there are other items in particular momos and noodle soups. However, you do have other options as well, such as vegetable or meat curries, spaghetti or pizza from the menu of higher-end lodges if interested. Still, they may also have apple pie and rice pudding on top of a variety of teas and coffee that is always available, as well as local alcoholic drinks like chang (fermented barley beer).

Dietary Considerations:

Luxury treks cater to various dietary requirements like vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free etc. However, it is advisable to let us know in advance so that we can make the necessary arrangements for meals.

Is Everest Base Camp Trek Still Difficult With Luxury Included?

The Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek is considered difficult due to its rough terrain and high-altitude challenges. But, when you book with luxury trekking services, it is like increasing your luxury quotient that, in a way, lowers the difficulty level of the journey.

The services given during luxury treks include plush stays, gourmet meals and personal guides; all these factors lead to a relatively easier and stress-free attack on the trek. However, be very clear that all other difficulties related to altitude sickness, bad weather and rocky paths are constant on an EBC hike, even if you have booked yourself in for luxury. Hard training, as well as physical fitness, is a must requirement for this quest, no matter what!

Importance of Travel Insurance on the Everest Base Camp Trek

You have to get travel insurance before you go for the Everest Base Camp trek. Altitude sickness effect you and if god forbid something happens, you will need medical help or an evacuation (yes, a helicopter rescue).

In Everest Region, flights are canceled/ delayed all the time – especially flights to Lukla. Travel insurance takes care of your medical emergencies/evacuations, trip cancellations/refunds and loss/delayed baggage so that you don’t lose money because of things not under your control. Better safe than sorry.
