Nepal in August

While August is still a month of monsoon, they ease by the end of the month. Visitors to Nepal during August will be welcomed by dazzlingly green rice fields.

High altitude trekking is out of the question, but routes in the magical Dolpo, Mustang and Nar Phu Valley regions remain dry. And it’s a good time to go cultural sightseeing because you will have the most popular places to yourself.

August is a warm month in Nepal as it is the summer. This makes it easier for the body to acclimatize to the climate as the places are not as cold as that in other months.

Nepal in August Weather

Nepal sees massive weather variation between the plains of the Terai, the mid-hills where big cities Kathmandu and Pokhara are situated, and the high Himalayas.

August is the final full month of the wet season rain continues into September— and temperatures and humidity remain high across the country.

According to official data, the average temperature will be around 28 – 30°c during the day and around 18 – 20°c at night.

Nepal in August: Crowds & Costs

August is low season in Nepal, so there will be fewer people on the hiking trails. Less trekkers around yourself mean you can enjoy the whole beauty of trek just by yourself.

Everything is beautiful, greener, and fresher than ever. The flowers are blooming all over the hillsides. During this month, the Himalayas become a trekker’s paradise.

During the off-season, accommodation prices are often cheaper. So, you’ll be able to bargain more easily for discounts.

Visiting Nepal in August

August is not really a perfect month to go trekking in Nepal. Clouds often obscure views, trails can be muddy and slippery, and road access to trailheads can be disrupted by landslides. But, Mustang, Nar Phu Valley and Annapurna Circuit are notable exception.

Where to go Trekking

Most of Nepal’s mid-hills region consists of agricultural land. During August, the monsoon rains have nourished the rice seedlings planted earlier in the month, treating visitors to hillsides carpeted in dazzling green crops.

And these you can see on the outskirts of Kathmandu Valley, along the highway between Kathmandu and also around Pokhara.

Mustang lies in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, so it does not experience the monsoon like the rest of the country. The weather is sunny but not too hot because of the altitude, and the skies generally remain clear.

If August is the only month you can visit Nepal, consider treks in Lower and Upper Mustang, Annapurna Circuit, Nar Phu Valley, Mardi Himal and Ghorepani Poon Hill.
